I grew up playing tuba in school. Our high school band played The Planets by Gustav Holst. In the middle of “Jupiter” is a magnificent section that later came to be known as the hymn, “Thaxted,” named after the town where Gustav lived much of his life. “Thaxted” is a majestic hymn that I have loved for years. I wanted to arrange it, but just never found lyrics as noble to match the hymn’s grandeur. However, one day while I was reading Romans 8, a couple of the verses fit the tune; I had finally found a scripture with splendor to match the hymn.
